Gone to be with the Lord

God's blessings to family and friends of my dear friend, Carol, who went to be with the Lord today. Though I never "met" Carol in person, I think she was the closest friend I've had. Perhaps its because we had so many similarities, perhaps it was because on the internet its easier to be honest, even with our shortcomings. Whatever the reason, Carol knew me and my faults, and loved me anyway, for myself. I am so very thankful to have "met" her, and had her in my life for the past 6 years. My life will never be the same. I'm thankful the end of her suffering has come, and that she has entered Glory with our Savior. One day I will join her and we will finally share in person our friendship. Rest in peace, dear friend, I will miss you.

Yesterday, President Bush announced, "I've declared Friday, Sept. 16, a national day of prayer and remembrance. I ask that we pray as Americans have always prayed in times of trial, with hope for a better future and with the humility to ask God to keep us strong so we can better serve our brothers and sisters in need." For the young mother suffering from miscarriage, strengthen and guide her in her decisions and hold her close to you.

For the asthma sufferer, having severe problems, give her the breath of Life you alone can give.

For those who have suffered loss because of the Iraq/Afganistan wars, give comfort and blessing.

Whether it was circumstantial, or perhaps "prophetic", a day after my pastor and I discussed the "evil that lurks in the hearts of" computers (hmmm, The Shadow, perhaps this is good story material...), my wonderful computer crashed on May 12. It took some time, some decisions, and finally just getting around to ordering the fixit job and paying the bill and viola!, I'm back online!

So I pray that those who needed prayers during this time know I was praying all along, and am back online.

How Ironic

I can't help but consider that during Easter week, news was filled with stories of death; Terri Shiavo, the pope, the Iraq war, it goes on and on. Almost as if its a reminder to us, like the classic movie, "The Passion", that in order to understand the meaning of the Resurrection, we must not forget the pain and suffering and death that is behind the true victory of the cross. That our sins, iniquity (guilt) and sinful nature continue, even as we bask in the glory of Easter Sunday, and that there is a need to continually focus on our need for God's grace and mercy. May God bless us with His mercy, and remind us that we are freed from our sin when we ask His forgiveness. For the glory of the Savior, Amen.

Minnesota Tragedy

Sad breaking news, a student shot his grandparents, and then went to the school and opened fire, killing a total of 9 people, then apparently killing himself. There are still many hurting. My prayer is that God's healing touch those who are injured, that His love touch those who are mourning, and that He embraces those who joined Him in heaven today, much too early. In Jesus name, Amen.

Computer Problem

There is an internal fan not working, eventually the computer will die, but no prediction how long that will take. This is an "off brand" computer, so its not easy to get parts. Therefore, I use it til it dies and then decide what to do. I am going to call the "second hand" computer store, see if they can by chance come up with a solution. So, I'm online until it dies with no warning, so if I disappear, I'll return when I can.

Job Opportunity

Last summer prayers were shared for baby Julia, born prematurely, and having respiratory problems. She is currently again battling problems of RSV. She has ongoing medication which causes strain on the family finances.

Dear Lord, be mindful of Julia, and her family. Give strength and healing, and send financial backing when they need it. This family loves you, Lord, and shows their love in their service to the church. Bless them and remind them of your providence, for Jesus sake, Amen.

Prayers for Ruth, who lost her mother this week. May Christ, who understands the sorrow of death, bring joy to her heart. Amen.

Got this message from a friend regarding "K": " in shock, my arm does have a tear but the real problem is i have spurs on my fifth vertibra in my neck and that is making the tingling and both hands weak, would be off work 2 months from surgery so I am having a melt down"

Lord, lay your healing hand on "K". May her tingling and weakness be healed, and take care of her every need. Use this time to bring her, and us, closer to you. IN Jesus name, and for HIS sake, AMEN.

"J" has been serving in Germany while on some sort of mission for the reserves he serves through our country. He was scheduled to return on Monday, but his sister called me last night to tell me he suffered a brain aneurism while there. His parents are flying out today to be with him. I do not know any other information than that. Please pray for healing and safe travels for his parents and him.

Creation

There is a picture floating around the internet, of an Iceberg in incredibly clear blue water. The beauty of it struck me profoundly, and as I pondered on this massive piece of creation I thought of the many wonderful things we see before our eyes. Literally, we see bits of creation every day, babies growing, flowers blooming, plants taking root, ever changing landscapes molded by the silent, or not so silent, winds. What an honor to see these bits of creation. Then I thought, what would it have been like to be there when it all began, when God spoke and things became reality. However He did it, it would have been amazing. And then I thought, hey, wait a minute. What if I do get to watch creation?

The Bible says that a new heaven and a new earth will be created, and all things now existing will pass away. What if I get to see it happen! It would answer so many questions. No matter what happens, or how it happens, it will be glorious!

Thank you Lord, for your saving grace, which allows a sinner like me to approach you and walk with you through the door of eternity.

Jesus, Be My Beacon

I recently watched the movie, "The Perfect Storm". In it, the seamen were faced with a challenge of bringing in the biggest prize and in doing so, made some regretable mistakes which cost them their lives. The scene where the huge wave comes and swallows the ship, made tiny in its presence is a picture that sticks in one's mind.

Though probably not the original intent of the movie, this really has made me think about our world today. In this world we are seeing tragedy and chaos. Some predict the end is near, some wallow in misery. It seems that these waves of pain are closing around us and we wonder if there is even any hope of surviving. What is saddest that in the midst of the storm, many can't see the light beaconing them, and even sadder, when some see it, they turn away. To grasp that light would be to admit they can't weather the storm without it and in their pride, they turn into the wave and let it envelope them.

I, for one, have received the grace and mercy of the beacon light, and hope that I can spread His light to others, by His grace.

May all those who meet me not see the darkness around me, but the Light that guides my way. Amen.

There are many battles in life, those we choose, and those chosen for us. What we must remember that it is not "flesh and blood" that we fight, but the evil powers controlling them.

I recently had two big disappointments, both involving people I had considered friends. After the initial grieving process, shock, anger, denial, sadness and acceptance, I took a step back and remembered God's teaching about our "battles". It made the regret much easier to bear, and made it possible for me to forgive.

So I am declaring this my personal forgiveness Sunday, forgiving those who have hurt me, and thereby releasing myself from the shackle of pain it caused. May this go a long way in allowing me to get back to the basics, of telling others of Christ's love and forgiveness, and back to being myself.

Lord, forgive those who have hurt me. I release them from any bondage of guilt I applied to them. Forgive me for those things I have done to hurt others, may I be released from the guilt and pain I have caused them. Renew me, and create a new spirit in me, fresh and ready to fight the important fight, against wrong and standing for what is right. Only through you can this be accomplished. Please equip me to face what comes and give me constant assurance of your presence. In Jesus name, and for His sake, Amen.

Praises to Jesus, the great healer, as Jim is doing much better, back to work, with minimal problems!

Have heard of a soldier, Lee, who is serving in Iraq, who has recently received the meritorious ARCOM award. May he be safe so that he can celebrate this with his family soon, along with all those serving to keep our world safe.

May God be with the families of those who are grieving loss, especially Dianne, Jamie, and Linda. May their losses bring them into the arms of their loving Savior.

Lord, today we thank you for all you've done, especially sending Jesus, your Son.

Lord, we pray for those who are ill and hurting, for Jim, who is suffering back pain and an unsure future. We bring him to you, Lord, to heal, to reach, to comfort. We pray for Raelle, suffering stage 4 cancer, bravely but painfully. Cover this pain with your blessings and bring her and her family closer to you during this time.

Lord, we also pray for Dianne, whose husband was tragically taken too early this week, leaving her and their 7-year old son alone to make so many critical decisions. Bless them today during the funeral, and hold them close as they face a new future without Wayne, and without the farm they knew as their life and bring them to the new place you want them to be.

For all our prayer partners, enrich their lives, give them strength and stand by them as each day brings new challenges, trials and joy.

Received this notice regarding parents of "Dan", who live in Jamaica: "We've been keeping in touch with Dan's parents by e-mail several times today. They are preparing for the storm by boarding up their house, cutting tall branches down which could destroy things, saving water out, putting ice in coolers for food, etc. There isn't school there today or tomorrow. I hear it's been downgraded from a 5 to a 4 but still could be very devastating. Only time will tell if the roof will hold. Dan's Mom wrote that at 7:30 tonight it was drizzling but everything was quiet. The sky at sunset was a beautiful red. They are advised that rain and wind will start during the night and tomorrow about mid-day, the eye should passing over them. All the internet service providers have gone home and they had some trouble with e-mail so even if they have power, we may not be able to correspond with them until everything is over." SPECIAL PRAYERS FOR DAN'S FAMILY TODAY!

Prayer Request for a Community experiencing trials/tribulations

From one of our partners: "Please pray for an extended family in our town where there have been drinking problems and discord.

Pray for 3 children who may have to be separated from their mother, who might have neglected them through drinking. The mother, "G", was also a victim of domestic violence. This
family belongs to a Christian Church, but I don't know how involved they have been.

Please pray for safety of all the families and individuals in this town, as there recently was a fire, cause unknown, although may have been caused by fireworks (Noone was hurt).

Please pray for "N", a man who is homeless and looking for work.

Please pray for a pastor couple that they may not only help those in need with rides, food, etc. but share the Gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Tragic Death

From one of the Prayer Parters: "One of the autistic boys that I have worked with over the years passed away this morning. He got into some of his dad’s medication and took it. They took him to the ER and after several hours he was sent home. He seemed to be doing ok but all of a sudden early this morning he screamed once and was gone. I also found out that one of the other autistic boys I worked with has been in a coma the past 3 weeks and isn’t expected to make it. Evan is the one that passed away and I really think his parents and brother need all the thoughts and prayers they can get. He was only 15.

An update on Jim, hurt in Iraq

We have been praying for Jim, hurt in Iraq. He remains at Walter Reed Hospital, but has recently moved to an intermediate care unit. Still unable to stand on his own, he has received a successful procedure to place a shunt, which should relieve some pressure. The family remains by his side, especially his mother, who has left her work indefinitely. May God be with this family, supporting their spiritual and financial needs, and may healing come quickly.

Oral surgery tomorrow

I will be having oral surgery tomorrow afternoon. I am usually pretty sensitive to tranquilizing medications, so praying that it won't take long to recover. Thankful that the long wait to treat this infected tooth is soon over. I will return to administering this prayer list as soon as I can.

Prayers for Lynn and Julia

The principal organist at our church, Lynn, has given birth to her little daughter, Julia, six weeks early. They were away for the weekend and so the birth took place away from home and the baby had to be take to a bigger hospital even farther away, Julia is breathing with a respirator.

Recovery will be slow, so I've been asked to fill in as organist for a prolonged period of time. I am so glad God led me to this church, to serve at this time.

Pray for Lynn and Julia and their family, and may God bring them safely home.
